Dear All General and Life Members,

I am deeply honoured to have been elected as the first female Chairperson of Panchthar Samaj Sewa UK for the 2023–2025 term during the ninth general convention. I sincerely thank all members for placing their trust in me. With a strong commitment to service, I have led PSSUK with dedication, innovation, and integrity. For over 15 years, I have actively served the organisation, always driven by a passion for social work and community welfare. During my tenure, we successfully launched the official PSSUK website on 30th August 2025 to strengthen global connectivity. I thank Mr. Samsogen Nembang for his contribution as webmaster.

Despite challenges, we proudly upheld the legacy of the Panchthar Cup in both 2024 and 2025. Our Charity Night on 25th February 2025 successfully raised over £10,000 for Falelung Adharbhut Bidyalaya in Nepal, supporting the construction of a school library and basic resources. I extend special thanks to Mr. Sandesh Nembang and the executive team for their dedication. We also welcomed many new life members and families, bringing our total to over 400, primarily from Gurkha backgrounds. As my term concludes, I am proud of the strides made in strengthening cultural ties and engaging the younger generation. My sincere gratitude goes to our founding members, past leaders, volunteers, and supporters. I warmly encourage more families to join us in preserving and celebrating our shared heritage.

With gratitude and optimism,
Shanti Limbu,
President, PSSUK

Panchthar District

Panchthar is a hilly district located in the eastern part of Nepal, within Koshi Province. The district is known for its natural beauty, cultural richness, and ethnic diversity. Phidim, the district headquarters, serves as the administrative and commercial center. Geographically, Panchthar is bordered by Ilam to the south, Taplejung to the north, Terhathum to the west, and India to the east.

The population of Panchthar is around 192,000, with the Limbu community forming a significant portion of the inhabitants. Other ethnic groups such as Rai, Tamang, Gurung, Magar, Brahmin, and Chhetri also reside in the district. The Limbu culture plays a major role in shaping the district’s identity, with traditional festivals like Chasok Tangnam being widely celebrated. Agriculture is the main occupation, with crops like maize, millet, potatoes, cardamom, and tea grown in the region. Many people are also engaged in animal husbandry and small-scale industries, while remittances from foreign employment contribute to the local economy.
